Quite contrary to all the other systems on the market only with AGENT all components (PC-hardware, configuration software, and protocol independent Windows95 / WindowsNT drivers or OPC server) are identical for all protocols, which results in reducing the engineering, maintenance, support and distribution costs dramatically.

Description

The AGENT communication system consists of the following components:

• An intelligent communication hardware in form of a PC card.
• The graphic configuration surface ADMINISTRATOR to simplify configuring your application.
• An OPC server or a protocol independent Windows95/WindowsNT driver for connecting windows based applications as e.g. automation software, laboratory and measuring systems, or self-developed programs (e.g. in Visual Basic) as well, to the AGENT communication system.
• A great number of available protocols as e.g. Profibus DP/FMS (12Mbaud), Interbus, CANopen, DeviceNet, 3964/R, Modbus RTU/ASCII, MPI.

What is the technical particularity of AGENT?

For the first time AGENT transfers the basic idea of OPC to allow a protocol independent access of PC applications to what ever bus system to the whole communication system:

• The interface between PC applications and all fieldbusses is always identical (OPC server or Windows95/WindowsNT driver).
• The communication hardware for all fieldbusses is identical.
• For all fieldbus protocols the fieldbus applications are configured by the ADMINISTRATOR configuration surface in the same manner.

The communication hardware is fully operational and compatible as PC-ISA, PC 104, PCI bus, and PC card (PCMCIA).
